The Secretary of State for the Colonies appointed members tolong Long University rovisional owers Committee, anthorised by order in Council to deal with immedely important University nultero tali the time at which the proper authorities of the University can fulfil their functions. The mates of arranging for the early resump- tion of higher studios in Fong kung it has taken the action indicated below.

Buildings: The Civil :fairs duinistration in ilong Saong had undertaten to push forward as rapidly as possible with the work of restoring buildings. The Committee asked that high priority should be given to the repair and re- fitting of the elementary Science laboratories,, of the medical laboratories, of part of the class room) es-the art building, of an office and of as much as possible of rosii nces for students and staff.

Libraries:

Nothin_ was necessary nere except the saparation away from the University stocks of the large numbers of books from other places which were gathered at the library for safe keeping.

Stuff-lready a few members of the University staff are in Hong Kong, the professor of Synaecology with whom are associated in certain refresher courses now being given officlating professore of surgery and Medicine: a senior lecturor in Physies working in the Civil Affairs dminis- tration but to be releasou as soon as he is required. The hegidorur ab the Profess rs of english and Economics have Rado preparations to return to mong kong as soon as passages aro available. The professursuips in Chomistry, Physics," Pathology, Medicine, Surgery, Civil Engineering, Education are vacant. The filling of these posts is left to the action of the appropriate University body.
